Surfing on her own wave |
|
Sandra De La Rosa (center) spends a lot of time literally
surfing in her success. An avid fan of the Hawaiian surfboard,
26-year-old De La Rosa is the owner and designer of the
California-based Raw Skin, a line with a feminine touch after
she was tired of wearing the traditional outfits, usually
designed and made for men, when she wanted to hit the waves.
De La Rosa, who was working as a buyer for local surf company,
would make her designs at home. She recruited local tailors
and would pay them with money she had borrowed from friends
and family. "It wasn't easy doing it," the Californian said.
But it was worth the effort. Though she has just started to
make a profit, her merchandise is already selling in 15
stores. If there's on thing that success takes is time, but
there's one thing she makes time for: "I get on my surfboard
everyday." |
